Using foods to get good skin is one half of our personality here at Deux Skin. (The other half is skincare itself.) This fermented salsa packs your diet with natural probiotics that help keep your gut happy and inflammation in check. With all those antioxidants and good bacteria, it can also lead to healthier, clearer skin from the inside out. Plus, it tastes amazing. Here’s the recipe:

Fermented Tomato-Carrot Salsa

Ingredients:

4 medium ripe tomatoes, diced

2 medium carrots, peeled and grated

1 small red onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 jalapeño or serrano pepper, minced (optional, for heat)

1 small bunch of cilantro, chopped

Juice of 1 lime

1 ½ tsp sea salt (non-iodized)

1 Tbsp whey or 1 probiotic capsule (optional, speeds up fermentation)

Filtered water (as needed to submerge)

Instructions:

1. Mix all ingredients in a bowl until combined. Taste and adjust salt if needed.

2. Pack tightly into a clean mason jar, pressing down so the natural juices rise. Add a splash of filtered water if needed to ensure everything is submerged.

3. Weight down with a fermentation weight or small clean jar. Seal with a lid (loose if it's airtight) or a fermentation airlock lid.

4. Ferment at room temperature (65–75°F) for 2–4 days. Taste daily after the second day. When it's tangy and delicious, refrigerate.

5. Serve with chips, grilled meats, tacos, or spooned over avocado toast.
